Chipping Sodbury Victorian Day
Lots of fun for everyone
Make a date in your diary for the Chipping Sodbury Victorian Day, which is held on the first Friday of December.
The event starts at 2pm when school choirs perform in the street along with other entertainers from two stages.
Snow machines produce the Winter atmosphere and Father Christmas in his sleigh parades through the town at 6.45pm headed by a Scottish piper.
Roll Up, roll up...
The streets are lined with stalls from local charities and organisations and include:
- old time amusements
- a traditional fairground including a Ferris wheel, Helter Skelter and children’s rides
- Traction Engines
- traditional fairground organs
Many people dress up in Victorian costumes to further enhance the atmosphere.
Eat, Drink and be Merry…
Entertainment includes:
- School choirs
- carol singers
- bell ringers
- a Punch and Judy show
- traditional fairground organs
- Alfredo the magical clown
- brass bands
- a solo vocalist
- Morris Men
- a best dressed window competition
Food is available from all the local food outlets along with the ever popular Pig Roast and stalls selling traditional Mulled Wine and Mince Pies, sweets and other fare.
As usual the streets will be lined with Christmas lights and decorated trees.
Late Night Shopping
Chipping Sodbury has many unique shops, welcoming eating places and public houses that will stay open late to meet all visitors' needs.
So... an ideal time to get your Christmas shopping, order your Christmas drinks and flowers and enjoy the great atmosphere that only Chipping Sodbury can provide.
Street Closures
Please note that Chipping Sodbury's Broad Street will be closed from 1pm to 10pm.
High Street, Horse Street, Hatters Lane, Wickwar Road and Hounds Road will be closed to all traffic from 4pm to 10pm.
About the Committee
The event is organised by a committee drawn from the Sodbury and Dodington Councils, Chipping Sodbury Lions and Rotary Clubs, the Festival Society and representatives from local schools and traders.
